COMPOSITION :
For-C® Injection 1 g/5 ml, each ml contains : Ascorbic acid 200 mg.
DESCRIPTIONS :
For-C® with Ascorbic acid as active ingredient is available in injection 1 g/5 ml.
INDICATION :
Treatment of Vitamin C deficiencies once per oral is contraindicated.
DOSAGE AND ADMISNISTRATIONS :
Adult : 100 – 200 mg, 1 – 2 times daily for several days.
On severe case, dose of 1000 – 2000 mg daily could be administered.
Giving can be done intramuscularly (IM), intravenously (IV) and subcutaneous (SC).
IM administration is preferred, if necessary IV administration slowly (rapid IV injection can cause temporary dizziness).
CONTRAINDICATIONS :
- Patients who are hypersensitive to any component of this drug.
- Hyperoxaluria.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS :
- Too rapid IV injections should be avoided.
- Diabetics, patients prone to recurrent renal calculi, those undergoing stool occult blood test and those on sodium restricted diets or anticoagulant therapy should not take excessive doses of Vitamin C over an extended period of time.
- Diabetics taking more than 500 mg of Ascorbic acid daily, may obtain false reading of their urinary glucose test. No exogenous Ascorbic acid should be ingested for 48 to 72 hours before amine dependent stool occult blood test are conducted because possible false negative result may occur.
- Safety usage in pregnant woman and nursing mother has not been established. Whenever used, it should be after careful consideration of the potential benefit over the potential risk which may occur.
- Large dosage usage may increase oxalate acid in urine and may cause precipitation of oxalate calcium in kidney.
- Caution should be used in patients with renal dysfunction and or patients with renal stone history.
- Caution should be used in patients with deficiency of Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) since it may cause haemolysis.
- Vitamin C is administered with a minimum dosage to patients with exceed iron substance because Vitamin C may increase absorption of iron substance. Vitamin C with large dosage could be dangerous for patients with haemochromatosis, thalasemia, polyerithema, leukemia or sideroblastic anemia.
- Large dose of Vitamin C may increase sickle cell crisis.
DRUG INTERACTIONS :
- Limited evidence suggests that Ascorbic acid may influence the intensity and duration of action of bishydroxycoumarin.
- Drugs that could induct desaturation of Vitamin C in tissues among others : Acetosal, nicotin in cigarette, alcohol, several drugs that increase appetite, iron substance, Phenytoin, several anticonvulsant drug, esterogen from oral contraceptions, Tetracycline.
- Large dose of Vitamin C may lead urine to be acidic that may cause renal tubular reabsorption of acid drugs and cause exceed response. Alteration of drug basic from could decrease reabsorption that decreases therapeutic effect. Large dose of Vitamin C could decrease oral anticoagulant respons.
ADVERSE REACTIONS :
- Transient mild soreness may occur at the site of intramuscular injection.
- Too rapid IV administration of the solution may cause temporary faintness or dizziness, exhausted, headache, insomnia, hot flushes, nausea, vomit, stomach cramps or even unconsciousness temporarily.
- Large dosage administrations may cause diarrhea.
- Dosage over 600 mg is reported diuretics.
