COMPOSITIONS :
Citicoline Sodium Injection 250 mg/2 ml, each ml contains : Citicoline sodium equivalent to Citicoline 125 mg.
DESCRIPTIONS :
Citicoline Sodium contains Citicoline sodium (equivalent to Citicoline) available in injection 250 mg/2 ml, 500 mg/4 ml and 1000 mg/8 ml.
INDICATIONS :
- For acute stage :
Unconsciousness following cerebral trauma (traffic accident) or brain surgery.
- For chronic stage :
Neural and psychiatric disorders (hemiplegia, dyskinesia, motorpalsy, aphasia, amnesia, disorientation and headache) following apoplexia and cerebral surgery.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATIONS :
- For acute stage :
Usually 250 – 500 mg, 1 – 2 times daily by intravenous drip or intravenous injection. - For chronic stage :
Usually 100 – 300 mg, 1 – 2 times daily by intravenous or intramuscular injection.
Dosage may be increased according to condition.
CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Patients with a hypersensitivity to any of the ingredient of this drug.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS :
Warnings :
- General : For patients with acute, serious and progressive disturbances of consciousness accompanying head injury and brain surgery, Citicoline should be administered in conjunction with haemostatic and intracranial pressure relieving drug or treatment, e.g., hypothermy.
- For patients with disturbances of consciousness in acute stage of cerebral infarction, start of Citicoline is recommended within 2 weeks after apoplectic stroke.
Precautions :
- Before administering Citicoline IM, the following cautions should be exercised so as not to affect the tissues, nerves, etc.
- IM injection should be given only when unavoidable and as sparingly as possible. In particular, repeated injection at the same site should be avoided. Extra care should be exercised in treating prematures, newborns, nursing infant and children.
- Care should be made to avoid injection at sites along the course of nerves. In case of intense pain or backflow of blood upon insertion of the injection needle, the needle should be withdrawn immediately and inject at a different site. In case of IV administration, inject as slowly as possible.
ADVERSE REACTIONS :
- Shock.
- Hypersensitivity : Rash (rarely occur).
- Psychoneurologic system : Insomnia, headache, dizziness, excitation or convulsion (rarely occur).
- Digestive : Nausea and anorexia.
- Hepatic : Abnormality of liver function (rarely occur).
- Ophtalmic : Trensient diplopia (rarely occur).
- Others : Warm sensation and transient changing of blood pressure or malaise (rarely occur).
